Odd PPD values Empty Odd PPD values

Post by Dark Tyr Mon Dec 13, 2010 5:15 pm

    Hello
    I am running:
    i5-750 OC'ed to 3.2 GHz
    Radeon 5850

When I first start any WU using either the GPU or SMP it will give one PPD value:
    GPU: 3504
    SMP: 4814
But then it will always drop after a while down to (some times is varies but it always drops):
    GPU: 2011.4
    SMP: 741
While still fully utilizing my CPU and GPU.
All I am doing is using iTunes.
Also when I sleep the SMP PPD always drops down into the low thousands with the screensaver off.

Is there something that I am missing?

Also I am assuming that PPD means Points Per Day?
and what do the colors mean on the PPD box background?

This is with FAH GPU Tracker V2 3.38

PPD = Points per day, you are correct here.

The color indicates if the current value is an actual calculated value or just an estimate based on previous benchmarks of the same WU. The Tracker will use the estimate until 3% of progress on a WU has been made since the client was started. This works similar to HFM.NET or FahMon.

Yellow = benchmark based estimate (assumes best TPF ever observed)
Green = PPD calculated from current TPF. (this shows the actual PPD, but it takes a few % to get a reliable number)

A possible reason for the PPD dropping is that the ATI GPU client will use 100% of one of your CPU cores. If you are running the SMP client set to the default (use all cores) or just 4 cores, this will result in a serious PPD drop if you run the GPU client at the same time. The reason the initial estimate is so high is likely because the best TPF observed was when the GPU client wasn't running.

    How to fix this:
    1. Set the SMP client to use 3 cores
    2. Delete the WU benchmarks for the SMP client (Client -> SMP -> Delete WU Benchmarks)
    3. Resume folding

    This should solve your problem.
