EVGA 550 Ti won't fold with tracker program Empty EVGA 550 Ti won't fold with tracker program

Post by swmeek Sat Apr 09, 2011 9:55 am

I just bought this card to help with my Folding and with the tracker program it won't work.
At the moment I have to use the latest beta driver from Nvidia so that I can run it with with my EVGA 570 GTX .
The driver version is 270.51 and I'm wondering if anyone else is having a problem with this card or one like it.
My 570 Folds just fine .
In the stats page it says it's working but nothing is happening and usually it says it's sleeping.
It says it's running this core GROGPU2 where as my 570 GTX is running OPENMMGPU.
shouldn't they be running the same cores?

Set the GTX 550 to use the GPU3 client and also set Nvidia Fermi for force GPU. GROGPU2 is core 11, which isn't compatible with newer cards.

Those are already set in the program.
    Thanks
Should I go and reinstall the program as I was recently running a 9800 GTX in that position?
I tried uninstalling the program and it tells me it won't because of some FAH file or something.

EVGA 550 Ti won't fold with tracker program Empty Back to the future?

Post by PsyLock Thu Aug 11, 2011 7:55 am

Was using 3.52 all up to date with my Asus 9800GTX+ and all was fine.

My gf's 8800Ultra burned so gave her my 9800 and bought the same card as swmeek.

I did the settings correctly but when i hit Start... nothing happens...

Apparently you did not do the settings correctly.

If you actually want help with the issue you need to provide much more information than "nothing happens"

Please post TRACKER CONFIG.txt and LOG.txt (NOTE: passkey is stored in plaintext in TRACKER CONFIG.txt, so make sure you edit it out before posting!)

Ok but i tried with "old" install and a fresh one and same result.
On the "old" i have a WU at 39%.
If i put back my 9800, it works with the 2 methods.

    So, LOG.TXT :
    Code:
    [14:48:43] --------------------------------------------------
[14:48:43] FAH GPU Tracker v3.52 Startup
    [14:48:43] --------------------------------------------------
    [14:48:43] Detected OS: Windows 7
    [14:48:44] Detected CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz
    [14:48:44] 2 Cores, 2 Threads, 3 163 MHz
    [14:48:48] Starting GPU 0
[14:48:48] Resumed existing WU on GPU0
And "nothing happens" :p It stays here without doing anything, no folding, GPU Usage at 0%. Verified with MSI Afterburner and AIDA64.

    EDIT :
I assume the 9800 is using FahCore_11.exe cause it selected nVidia G80.

    With the GTX550 i looked FAHlog.txt :
    Code:
[10:55:34] Client config found, loading data.
    [10:55:36] CoreStatus = 63 (99)
    [10:55:36] + Error starting Folding@home core.
[10:55:36] - Attempting to download new core...
    [10:55:36] + Downloading new core: FahCore_15.exe
It does a loop on this. Downloads the exe, verifys it, says it's good 3 times, and redownloads it the 4th time.

Apparently not PeerBlock, i check my firewall now.
But why it messes with the Core15 and not the 11 if it's a firewall problem...

    EDIT2 :
It seems all ok with firewalls...
I tried to launch directly FahCore_11.exe and FahCore_15.exe : nothing.
So i launched FAH_GPU3.exe and it does same as the launcher.

EDIT3 : Seen on Stanford forums it's a nvidia driver problem.
Updated as said, still not working... i'll wait so, i stop to investigate.

Your configuration is correct. Core 11 WUs will not run on Fermi based GPUs, which is why you are getting core 15 instead. If it's failing to start core 15, then the problem is with the FAH client/core not the Tracker. All the Tracker does is control the standard FAH clients.
