3 way SLI problem Empty 3 way SLI problem

Post by meister Wed Oct 13, 2010 1:04 am

Having a problem with my 3 way SLI rig (SLI enabled). I can enable any random two of the three GPU clients but the third always causes serious system slowdown and is unstable, as if it's trying to share the other cards. I want to switch from the individual console clients I have been using successfully with launch args -gpu X -advmethods -forcegpu nvidia_g80 -local

Regular Console clients working fine with SLI enabled: https://2img.net/r/ihimizer/i/happysli.png/

    Two GPUs with Tracker: https://2img.net/r/ihimizer/i/2happygpu.png/

Two alternate GPUs with Tracker: https://2img.net/r/ihimizer/i/2happygpub.png/

Three clients with tracker, system ground to a halt and unstable: https://2img.net/r/ihimizer/i/3sadgpu.png/

The app works fine with SLI off but that would make gaming mode less useful. Is there a way to get it working with SLI?

Is there any particular reason you are using the GPU3 client for those cards? (I assume G92 or GT200 based on the -forcegpu flag) The GPU3 client is only good for Fermi (GTX 400 series) cards.

    Try this:
    1. Disable the GPU3 client by unchecking the box next to each GPU in the configuration.
    2. Delete the WUs on all of the GPUs by doing Client -> GPUx -> Delete WU
    3. Try starting the clients again.

It's possible that a combination of core 15 and core 11 WUs in an SLI configuration is the cause of this problem. Using the GPU2 client instead of the GPU3 client will prevent any core 15 WUs from being downloaded.

Also, what GPUs are you running? If the above doesn't work please post full system specs.

    Thanks for the quick response!

I had selected the GPU3 client only because that's what I have been using since upgrading a too-old client.

I have tried deleting the WUs and switching to GPU2 client to no avail with all three being Fahcore_11 WUs.

Here they are the system specs:
    Intel Core 2 Q9550
    EVGA 680i Motherboard
    3x PNY GTX 260 c216
    6 GB DDR2
    Antec 1000w PSU
    Windows 7 64 bit Pro

Edit: and the video drivers are 260.63

This problem has me confused as well, since the Tracker simply runs the normal clients. This seems to be a FAH problem, since the Tracker can start/stop all 3 clients and they run fine as long as you don't run them all at the same time. Running 3 clients with the Tracker won't cause this problem by itself.

This is one of those cases where I would need to have the hardware to actually test this in order to figure out what is going on. Sorry that I can't be of much help.

If you still want to try and make this work, the only option left is to look at the client.cfg files from each of your standalone clients to compare with the ones the Tracker clients use by default.

Ok, I have gotten it working by copying over my console FAH folders to the tracker before running them through the tracker for the first time. If I overwrite the tracker after running it wouldn't work. Also, I omitted the client.cfg as to not conflict with the tracker settings. I recall Nvidia adding the ability to access individual cuda GPUs in a SLI configuration in 190.38 release, so perhaps it has something to do with the dll files included?
